Marriage

Marriage is considered a qualifying life event which means you don’t have to wait until Open Enrollment to add/drop dependents to/from coverage.

If you experience a qualifying life event and want to make changes to your benefits, log into myAGBenefits or call the AGBenefits Service Center at (877) 213-6240.

Health Care, Dental, and Vision Coverage

If you decide to change your benefit elections due to a marriage, you can add or drop coverage. You have up to 30 days after the qualifying event to make the change.

Spousal Surcharge - when adding a spouse, be aware that you will incur a Spousal Surcharge of $200 per month when your eligible spouse is employed and able to obtain their own employer’s medical plan with comprehensive medical coverage of at least $1 million that is subsidized by their employer at 50% of the cost or greater. The Spousal Surcharge does not apply when both associate and spouse are employed at American Greetings.

Life & AD&D Insurance

You may consider adding or dropping Life Insurance and Optional Family Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) Insurance to you or your dependents. Life and AD&D insurance provides financial protection for eligible and enrolled associates and family members due to death or covered injury. You have up to 30 days after the qualifying event to make the change.

You may consider changing your beneficiaries for your Group Life Insurance and Optional Family AD&D Insurance at any time. To change your life insurance beneficiary, log into myAGBenefits click on the "Change my Benefits/Update Life/AD&D Beneficiary" button. The beneficiary named for group life insurance will also apply to AD&D coverage. Paper forms can be printed off here.

Flexible Spending Accounts

You may be eligible to open a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) or, if you already participate in a FSA, make a change to your contributions. The American Greetings Healthcare Flexible Spending Account and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account enables you to use pre-tax dollars to pay for eligible medical, dental, vision (“limited purpose” if enrolled in an H.S.A.) and dependent care expenses. You have up to 30 days after the qualifying event to make the change.

Health Savings Accounts

Your eligibility to make contributions to an HSA can change mid-year for many reasons. For help determining your prorated HSA contributions after a change, go here: HSA Contributions - mid-year changes. You can make changes to your pretax contributions at anytime during the year by logging into myAGBenefits. Go to: Change my Benefits>Events>Update HSA Contributions.

Retirement Savings Plan

You may name anyone as your beneficiary. However, if you are married, you must designate your spouse as your beneficiary unless your spouse consents to name someone else. If you marry after you enroll in the Plan, your spouse will automatically be your beneficiary unless he/she provides a written, notarized consent allowing you to name someone else as your beneficiary and any existing beneficiary designation of someone other than your spouse will be void absent such consent.

It may be required by the law to recognize obligations you incur as a result of court-ordered property settlement, child support, or alimony payments. If an order is received, all or a portion of your account may be used to satisfy the obligation. Your account will be charged a fee for processing the court order.
